Don’t look back; you’re not going that way
I agree, wholeheartedly.
Becoming lost in the past, whether that be in injustices (perceived or otherwise) that eat you up and keep you there, or ‘what ifs’ or ‘if onlys’ that seduce you with their 20/20 tinted rose…
Both will keep you away from now. Away from the incredible possibilities that await you if you can tear your eyes away from your wake…
(Didn’t you just know there was a but?)
There is one time, I believe, when looking back is not harmful at all. Quite the opposite.
I was washing up this morning, and there was porridge quite firmly adhered to this bowl. It took some shifting. And I got to thinking about it. It’s not an especially beautiful bowl, nor valuable, it’s a bit chipped, and it’s been with us through three house moves.
But it was given to us, many moons ago in a time of great need, as part of a set. By a dear friend whose help was as welcome as it was unexpected. And a mutual friend of hers and mine gave us some beds. This bowl is the sole survivor of those times.
Apart from us.
So, looking back with gratitude and recognising how far you’ve come in spite of it all.
That, I’d like to suggest, is a good thing ❤
